In my opinion, for beginner, it is better to get some lessons in Slope8/play before going go the ski/snowboard trip.
Not able to comment on snow board learning. I learnt ski in slope8 before my first ski trip to korea. IMHO, one hour lesson in slope8 is better than half day beginner lesson in Korea. As the machine in slope8/play can accomodate 2 students, it is more economical to learn there together with one of your friend at the same level. I highly recommend to complete a pacakge course provided by them before the trip. It would be a 5~6 hours or lessons package. it make you safer and let you acquire all the basic skills. Give them a call. For first time to Korea, I highly recommend you joining KTS's package tour. Reasons: 1. Much Cheaper compared with DIY 2. Include basic gears for ski. Not sure for snowboard. 3. The guide will arrange all for u and take care for all u need 4. u can know some friends. Can support for one another. 5. U can join the beginner course. Skiing is free. Not sure for snowboarding. Check it out. 6. Some entertainment provided in dinner. May inclidenight ski. Hope this can help. |

Yep, pretty much most skier/snowboarded in HK are like that, including me! That's why I encourage you to join tours which may help you know someone from HK can share the same interest. Youtube, forums, Google are good tutors. "Slope 8/infinity at North Point/ PLay at Kwun Tong" Never join their classes, so can't comment. I learned snowboard 3 years ago. No class, no tutor. I learned everything from youtube and websites. It really depends on how much effort you put in. You just need to tolerate the pain and practice from morning to closing for 2-3 days. If you love the sport, you will try understand it and push yourself to learn more about it. Another thing, if you are not a sporty type, GO JOGGING 1 month before the trip! You need good stamina to snowboard/ski! I am not joking, it would help you a lot.

Another recommendation. Join ClubMed Sahoro package.
1. You can join their snowboard class by qualified instructors every day. Different levels for different boarders. Included in the package. 2. Full board meal and include drink. They take care all u needs. 3. In December, it is likely that snow condition in Hokkaido is much better than that in Korea. 4. In general, Ski condition in Japan is much better than that in Korea. I think it is cheaper than DIY ski tour to Korea if u take the full board meal and snowboard course into consideration. I think u can go down intermediate red run after 4-5 days training. Better still, finished the 5 hours package course in slope 8 or play then join clubmed to continue the training. You may be able to go down black run after that if you learn fast. This is my recommendation and would be what I would do if I were you. |

Thanks for your trip report! I hope you had a good time snowboarding. So you're looking forward to your next trip next year already?
I'am pretty surprised that you can rent goggles and gloves as I thought these should be considered personal items and many places would not have rental of these because of hygienic reasons. Thanks for this post; I'm thinking about snowboarding again. It prompted me to alter my own trip slightly to fit in one day of snowboarding (and get some private lessons) before my skiing week starts. Hope it'll be all right (don't want to get hurt and ruin my ski trip ![]() |
